Not Without My Domestic Partner!
During a town hall meeting at the Dean Acheson Auditorium in Washington, D.C., Secretary of State Hillary Clinton addressed the topic of same-sex partner benefits for State Department employees. Clinton told the audience that she has ordered a review of current policies, and plans to develop a strategy for implementing changes. “I view this as an issue of workplace fairness, employee retention, and the safety and effectiveness of our embassy communities worldwide,” Clinton said. This came on the heels of one State Department service member sharing his concern to the Secretary that should he come under forced evacuation while serving abroad, his significant other “member of household” could easily be left to fend for himself – sans assistance from the State Department.
